How do you relax?

With every thing that is going on in the world right now, and over the last two years frankly, it can be hard to de-stress and stop worrying all the time. Many people struggle with anxiety, especially when it keeps them from doing things they want to do. Sometimes, all of the self-care in the world doesn't seem to help because when you're not doing the self-care thing, the anxiety and stress is still there. If you are right there with me and millions of other Americans, this one is for you.
Before I go into techniques, one thing that is important to understand about the mind is that the unconscious mind actually doesn't differentiate dreams, visualization, or imagination from reality. Ever wake up from a nightmare with sweat beading on your forehead and your heart racing? That's because the unconscious mind believes that what is happening is real, so even if it was a dream, you still experienced it subconsciously and your body reacted to it. Because of this, we can actually use this as a kind of hack for the unconscious mind to sort of trick it into believing what you want it to believe. Kinda cool, huh?
So now I want you write out what you're stressed about and why. Write them out and hold nothing back. Mine would sound something like this: My dogs are so crazy, I know they love me but it just stresses me out when they get so excited when I get home because they jump all over the place. It makes. me worry that I'll end up having to move or that they will get hurt in the process of being so excited jumping up and down. You get the picture.
After you finish that section, write out how you would like to feel about these situations in your life. If you would like to do anything to change the situations, write about that. What would that look like for you? Again, I will share mine. My dogs are so happy to see me. I'm so thankful for them. They're learning really well how to calm when I tell them to calm. I am so thankful I am able to train them and they listen to me. They are just super excited to see me. Haha, I love them! If you can't control these situations and are doing all you can, practice giving yourself grace and gratitude for the steps you are taking. Like this: I know the dogs need to get into training, and I am doing the best that I can. I am doing a great job considering that I have two businesses to run and other obligations. When I can afford to hire a trainer, I will. But right now, these dogs are doing as good as they can, and so am I.
Now its time for visualization. You can do this before you go to bed, you can do this before you do. whatever task. I want you to visualize yourself from the beginning of your day waking up happy, stress free. I want you to visualize yourself going through your day and as stressors come up, you acknowledge them, and then you do what you can, but you feel calm and confident. Visualize yourself going through the situation that gives you anxiety with completely calm energy. Take a few moments to let this vision come to life in your mind. Imagine yourself facing the challenges of your day with ease, and staying calm, and happy all day. Even if you have a moment in the midst of your day, imagine that you are able to easily get back to feeling calm and confident. You feel amazing. You feel so good that you drift off into a deep sleep as soon as your head hits the pillow.
If you find yourself becoming stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, or the like, remember to give yourself grace, you are doing a great Joh. Practice visualizing yourself many times a day if you need to. Your unconscious mind will create. the belief that you can live stress free, and the more evidence you support that belief with, the more naturally it will come to you.
